The landscape is changing. As uncertainty about the economy continues, consumers are changing their approach to buying elective products and services. Spa customers are not simply looking for the cheapest price, yet they do look for additional value for their dollar today. How can medical spa owners best respond to this changing landscape and position their businesses to continue to attract customers and drive sales?

When business slows down, many owners turn to discounting as a means of boosting volume and ensuring that employees stay engaged and productive. However, I believe that owners do more harm then good when employing this strategy, because they damage the perceived value of the experience they are providing. Remember, customers are looking for increased value and, while everyone appreciates getting a good price, discounting can raise questions in the customers mind about the value of what they are getting for their money. If your customers begin looking at your services as simply a commodity that they just want to get for the lowest price, your business is in trouble.

Look instead for strategies that give customers a better experience for their investment, instead of the same experience for a lower price, making them feel good about themselves, their purchase and your business. This can also be an opportunity for you to promote complimentary services and drive repeat business.
